Cruising/Progresso, Yucatan, Mexico

Tuesday Oct. 21 -  A Day at Sea

Today was a very relaxing day at sea.  Although we rarely take naps during the day at home, we certainly enjoyed our morning and afternoon naps on "Sea Days".

Following our (always free) room service of coffee, juice, fruit, pastries, etc., we began our day at sunrise by going up to the jogging/walking track on Deck 11 to do our daily 3-mile walk.  What a great way to start the day...watching the sunrise while getting some exercise!

The moon is still showing in the early morning sky as the sun comes up on the horizon.

On days at sea Carnival offers a brunch in the main dining room 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., so following our walk we only had a light breakfast from the buffet and instead saved our appetite for the brunch.  I ordered the Funniest French Toast, choosing the honey-nut cheerios topping.  It is thick-sliced bread rolled in egg mixture, then coated in your favorite cereal, then toasted!   Delicious!

We joined our prearranged tour at the Progresso Cruise Terminal for the Dzibilchaltun Ruins and Beach Break.

Our ship is docked at the end of the longest ever pier (three miles, I think) and when we reached the mainland we passed thru a checkpoint guarded by armed Army guys.
The streets of Progresso are busy and crowded with morning business.

Thankfully we travel only 12 miles to the Dzibilchaltun Ruins aboard a comfortable tour bus with a knowledgeable guide.
The surrounding grounds were beautifully kept and the continued meticulous restoration of the Dzibilchaltun Ruins is incredible.

 Lush tropical beauty abounds!

After we toured the ruins we boarded the tour bus for the short drive to a beach resort.  While there Tom joined in on a tug-of-war between our guide and another tour guide....
...while I took BooBoo for a walk along the beach...
....and saw this palm tree loaded down with coconuts!

Before we headed back to the ship, we walked down the street next to the resort looking to buy a six-pack of Diet Coke to take back to the ship.  In Progress, Yucatan, Mexico it is called Coke Light!

Tomorrow we go to Cozumel.......
