Vicksburg Military Park
Here is a picture postcard from our drive thru the Vicksburg Military Park. All the many, many monuments and the surrounding grounds were pristine, meticulous landscaping throughout the entire Park. The drive through the Park was very reminiscent of our trip through the Gettysburg Military Park in Pennsylvania.
There were so many monuments, I took so many photos, only posting a few of them here.
Shortly after returning home from this trip, powerful tornadoes ripped thru our area causing extensive damage to many folks' homes and property. We felt truly blessed to have been spared the brunt of these storms. We only had a little wind and some rain here at our humble abode. Thank you God!
This is our friend's home following the tornado. It was a beautiful two story brick home.....
......the entire top floor is gone.....
.....and the entire ground floor is so demolished......
.....it will all have to be bulldozed as soon as they can pick thru and salvage the little bit that is viable. So thankful they were out of town when this happened so they were not hurt.
The tornado ripped off all the trees from about ten feet from the ground!
This is what is left of the brand new, recently opened Dodge dealership.
The entire showroom and shop bays and everything east of the building was destroyed, but the vehicles on the west side of the building did not even get a scratch!
But the wind ripped most of the leaves from this large tree.
Again I have to say how grateful we were to be spared this damaging storm.
