Saturday - October 3
On Saturday morning Tim, Tom, and I went for our customary morning walk. We passed a home with this sign. I love it! I wish I could find some of these signs so I could post them along our county roads where we live.
Isn't this a grand old tree? The foliage looks like pine but it is a different sort of pine than the ones in our neck of the woods that grow straight and tall and slender.
As we are walking along I got the feeling that there are some serious LSU football fans around here!
We found a bike/hike path thru a cool neighborhood. This house had many, many birdhouses.
The bike/hike path followed alongside a canal running next to the railroad tracks and sure enough we came upon a flock of geese.
Tim does an excellent job of clearing them out of our path!
The geese retreated back into the canal.
Further along the way, Tom got to demonstrate his expertise in clearing the geese from our path! Silly boys!
The brothers strutted away triumphantly!
Back at our hotel, before we headed to the LSU Stadium, Tom showed his great-nephew Bryce some funny steps in the parking lot. It was fun to watch Bryce mimic his Uncle Tom's every move. Cute kid!
We arrived at the LSU Stadium around noon and were amazed to see how many folks were already there! The football game doesn't begin until 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. Some of these tailgaters have been here since yesterday or the day before! Tom was in charge of holding Todd's birthday cake level during the ride from our hotel and to carry it safely across the parking lot to the G & G Tiger Express tables. Good job, Tom!
This is the G & G Tiger Express in the shadow of the LSU Stadium. Tim's two brother-in-laws, who are both named Greg, have had this same reserved spot right next to the stadium for more than 30 years, I think, and they set up for every home game.
Lots of close and extended family members will be here today in honor of Todd's 40th birthday. Todd attended LSU and is a super dedicated LSU Tiger Football fan. His wife Andrea planned this whole weekend for him.
As you can see there is a lot of purple and gold here today. This Todd and Andrea with their two sons, Grant & Bryce.
Hey, Bryce, that chair is a little bit too big for you!
There are so many families with so many tailgating rigs set up here, and all of them are cooking up some kind of good food, so the aroma of grilling food permeates the air, so my Sweetie is trying some grilled sausage.
We are only here for a short time (thank goodness) today. Our (Tim, Kathy, Tom and I) job is to care for Grant and Bryce while their parents, Todd and Andrea, enjoy the tailgate party and game tonight.
We take a walk around the perimeter of the Stadium, people watching. Tim puts Bryce up on top of the tiger statue in front of the stadium for a photo op.
Amazingly, there is actually a huge pen next to the stadium where they keep an actual live Bengal tiger! It was hiding today so we did not see it.
We continued our walk around the entire stadium grounds while checking out some of the totally elaborate tailgate set-ups. Are these people serious, or what! And there are literally hundreds of tailgating groups set up around the stadium and stretching out as far as we could see!
LSU has some very dedicated and diehard fans! This is still hours before the game and there is already crowds flooding in to the stadium area!
By the time we made it back to the G & G Tiger Express party, it was time for Todd to cut his cake and we all sang "Happy Birthday"!
Grant has the right idea....he found him a quiet place to sit and enjoy his cake!
Soon after having cake it was time for us to take the two little boys back to the hotel. I think we were back to our hotel around 3:00 p.m.
It had been a nice day weather-wise but it chilled down after dark. The next morning Andrea told us that they were so cold and shivering at the game since they did not anticipate such a cold evening and did not bring warmer jackets. Glad I was back at the comfy hotel, in fact I guess I must have been tired from our week of vacation, plus I knew we were driving home the following morning, and I couldn't care less about watching the football game on TV, so I left Tim, Kathy, and Tom watching the little boys in Todd and Andrea's hotel room and went back to our room, and early to bed. I know, I know, I am a party pooper. Oh well. I need my "beauty sleep"!
