It feels wonderful to wake up this morning in the home of great friends with cool weather and plan to have a "slow", restful day. Greenstone is beginning his morning with T.V. News and laptop computer time with Thimbleberry close by.
After breakfast, Thimbleberry took me on a little tour of their property surrounding their home. Everywhere I look it is so neatly manicured and well kept; lawns, gardens, outbuildings, everything! Such a lovely setting!
Look at that bountiful crop of raspberries in their garden!!
What a great screen room to enjoy bug-free time in the backyard!
No water in their hot tub this time of year. Isn't that a pretty deck off their dining room! They are lucky that they both have the skills and knowledge to do most all of their remodeling and upgrading projects themselves! Greenstone and Thimbleberry are richly blessed and we really enjoyed visiting them in their lovely place.
They are so skilled and talented that they actually built their own gorgeous wooden kayaks!
Just look at that nice path leading into the woods from their home! Don't that make you want to go for a walk in the woods? Well that is exactly what we did! While Greenstone ran some errands, Thimbleberry led Tom and me for a walk in the woods all the way to a beaver pond. Their property backs up to the State Forest which has many trails.
The wooded trails are very lush and green and wet this morning due to the rain that came during last night. We made it to the beaver pond and there is a small purple wildflower growing in it.
We came upon this crystal clear spring water burbling along and someone has hung an old red handled enamel dipper on the tree in case you want to scoop up a drink of water!
We passed by Thimbleberry's dad's old hunting blind.
Just as we got back to their home, it began to rain again. The weather forecast is calling for rain for most of the day.
It rained and rained some more, so I used this time to do our laundry, so we could pack up all clean clothes when we head back to Texas in a couple of days. We took it easy, reading, watching T.V., checked our emails on G. & T.'s computer, just being lazy.
Thimbleberry made a wonderful soup for lunch, Southwestern Potato Corn Chowder! She got the recipe when they visited us earlier this year and we visited the Southwest Dairy Museum in Sulphur Springs! After lunch, Greenstone had to leave to go back to Colwell Lake Campground where they are the Camp Hosts this Summer. We whiled away our time watching it rain.
After awhile though, the sun popped out! So off we went to the beach on Lake Huron, which is just a few miles down the road from their home, right on Hwy.134 that we drove on Day 4, going to Drummond Island.
We walked a little ways down the beach with a watchful eye on the dark clouds off to our right. We kept telling ourselves that it looked like the rain clouds were moving away from us. But we are not sure, so Thimbleberry says maybe we should head back to the car!
We had just started back when a drop or two fell, then a few more drops as we hurried along. About halfway back to our car, it began to rain in earnest! By this time we were jogging down the beach! Needless to say we all three got soaked to the skin, however we didn't melt, and what an adventure!
I am pretty sure Tom and I were asleep by 8:30 p.m. tonight. What a great day with great friends in the U.P.!!
Tomorrow we will meet up with Greenstone and visit Fayette Historic State Park which is located on Michigan's "Garden Peninsula".
