SHORT HIKE / SPRING BLOOMS

April 5-7, 2016

Once again I planned a short hike on the Ouachita Trail with my friend Mary "Titmouse".  Titmouse brought along a friend of hers, Betty "Babs".

I have already hiked all the Ouachita Trail miles within the state of Oklahoma (some of the miles multiple times) but Titmouse was eager to be able to say she has hiked all the Ouachita Trail miles in Oklahoma.  So we planned to begin at MM-0 at Talimena State Park and walk eastbound for three days covering 18.7 miles to Horsethief Springs.

You know what they say about best laid plans?  Well our plans had to be adjusted right from the get-go!

You can click here http://trailjournals.com/erma to read about our adventure and view many photos I took along the way.

I want to show you some of the scenes from right here at our edge of the woods during this incredibly wet Spring weather we have been having:

                            Flowering Quince

Three pairs of my Oboz "Lightning" trail runners make up my Hiker Shoe Flower Garden.

                                        Purple Lantana

                                Tom's "early" garden

4 baby birds in a nest over our back door.

Frightened the daylights out of me when I stepped out the back door to place our recycle plastic bottles into the bin!  This rat/chicken snake was sunning itself on our back steps in the early morning sunlight.  YIKES!!!!!  I screamed like a little girl, jumped back into the house and slammed the door.  I then went out the carport door and circled around to get this photo by zooming my camera lens.  I sure hope this big guy eats plenty of gophers and mice around here.  Maybe this is why we do not have mice in our home?

I saw these hot air balloons while driving home from work the other day.  There was a Balloon Festival in a nearby town.

These mushrooms popped up literally overnight!

These Mexican Sombrero flowers are reaching for the sky!

Tom's garden is thriving!  Just now beginning to pick the first veggies.

                                 I do love Springtime!
