I took the following photos on Sunday, Dec. 27.
On our way home from church Sunday morning we saw this water just pouring out from this field into the ditch and going across the road we were driving on!
This is one of our neighbors' hay meadows (not a pond) that these geese are enjoying!
This is looking out back from our house where off to the right(not in the photo) there is still a slight depression from a long ago pond. On this day it has filled and has flooded our "back yard park". Glad we don't need to get any of that firewood today!
There is water standing in our side yard, our garden plot is totally immersed, and the road between our garden and our neighbor's big oak tress is totally covered in water!
We have never had the need to put in a "driveway" to our carport because normally our sandy soil drains well and we have always been able to just drive in across the grass anywhere we want. Not right now though! As you can see we are having to park our vehicles on "higher ground" for a few days until things dry up a little.
On January 14 I participated in the 4th Annual Saddlebag Stampede. It dawned a gorgeous sunny day for our walk this year. We walked from our house to Mercedes' (another Saddlebag) house, 6.8 miles. We took a break there and turned around and walked 6.8 miles back.
This is Joyce and Diane who followed along with us in a vehicle providing any support we might need.
Along the way we passed this memorial tribute to a 21-yr. old guy who died here. Very sad loss of a young life!
When we got to Mercedes' house this herd of cattle across the road did not know whether to run away or follow us....
Each year the Saddlebag Stampede has benefitted a local horse rescue group. This year we decided to help one of our own Saddlebags who was hospitalized recently and did not have good health insurance to cover the astronomical expenses incurred. Glad we could help in a small way. Never know when it could be us in need.
Lately I have been lax in my diligent photo taking. I like having plenty of photos to augment my meager words here on this blog.
Back on September 23, our hiking friends Country Mouse and Shadow were passing thru this area and we met them for dinner and enjoyed wonderful conversation and food and continued to chat and visit with them some more out in the restaurant parking lot however when we parted and began to head home I immediately remembered "I forgot to take a photo". I was so caught up in the joy of seeing them and visiting with them I never even thought about it until it was too late....they were gone. They have visited Cuba since then and if you would like to read about that or any of their other adventures around the world here is a link to their blog:
Well if that was not bad enough, our good hiking friends from Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Greenstone and Thimbleberry, came by the other day, we visited awhile, and then we drove them to DFW where they were to catch a flight to South Africa to visit their daughter, Jenni, for almost a month, while we are keeping their truck here at our house until they return. But do you think I remembered to take a photo? NO! Once again I enjoyed the visit so much and never once thought about taking their photo until it was too late....and they were gone. They spent their Summer in Alaska last year and if you would like to read about that or any of their other adventures here is the link to their blog:
